  • Trenton-Ewing, NJ (1888PressRelease) May 09, 2012 - Runners and walkers looking for a 5K race need look no further! Educational Testing Service (ETS) and YWCA Princeton will host the Eighth Annual Firecracker 5K Run/Walk on Tuesday evening, June 26th, 2012. Runners, walkers, families, and corporate or organizational teams are invited to enjoy an early summer evening. The race is a USATF-certified course and a sanctioned event. It is a USATF-NJ Grand Prix event worth 500 points. CompuScore results will be available online or mailed upon request.

This year's race is dedicated to the memory of "Miss Patti" Preston, who founded the YWCA Princeton's Bilingual Nursery School, for which this race is a fundraiser. Through Patti's commitment, this nursery school program has grown and having graduated more than 300 successful learners ready for kindergarten. Students, families, colleagues, and community members who knew Patti are encouraged to register for the "Team Patti".

This 5K event is timed perfectly as school will be out, and the sunset will be late! Participants will enjoy a slightly hilly course contained within the beautiful grounds of ETS. Water stops will be placed conveniently along the way.

Awards will be given to winners in age-group categories-first, second, and third place-in five year increments through 80+. Winning corporate and organizational teams will receive special recognition in the post-race award ceremony. Participants will receive T-shirts, while they last. On hand for this festive occasion will be lively music (courtesy of Sound Choice DJs), refreshments, raffles, and family activities.

Registration will occur on-site just prior to the race from 6:00 to 7:15pm at ETS' Conant Hall located at the corner of Rosedale and Carter Roads in Lawrenceville. The race will kick off at 7:30 pm, rain or shine. Ample parking will be available. Cost to register is $25 on race day and $20 if pre-registered by June 19. There are two ways to pre-register: Download a race form at www.ywcaprinceton.org/firecracker5k and mail with payment to the YWCA Princeton 5K Race, 59 Paul Robeson Place, Princeton, NJ 08540 or register online at www.active.com. Sponsorship opportunities are still available for businesses wishing to support a worthy family-friendly, community event. Please consider donating financial support, or contributing products and/or services. Giveaways, door prizes, or miscellaneous supplies and services are greatly appreciated. Gift certificates, gift items, water bottles, food, and beverages are all welcome items for gift bags.

There's more you could do…how about recruiting runners and walkers, and volunteering to help the day of the event! Over 600 participants are expected to take part in this popular event and fundraiser that benefits those right here in our location community. Supporters will be needed to help stuff giveaway bags, staff the water stops and food tables, provide parking and traffic control, post signs to the race, and provide a variety of other essential duties and projects. To become a supporter or sponsor or for more information, please contact the YWCA Princeton at (609) 497-2100 x333.

Corporate sponsors to date include ETS, Tyco, Bracco Diagnostics, Novo Nordisk, The Mercadien Group, Nelligan Sports Marketing, New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance, Szaferman Lakind, and Bank of Princeton.
