  • (1888PressRelease) June 29, 2011 - P1 Groupe drivers Jeff Bucknum and Robert Stout showed the Mitchum Motorsports horsepower this weekend with a fourth place finish in the Grand Sport Class in the inaugural GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series Race Friday at Road America. The # 6 Mitchum Motorsports Camaro GS.R was fast all weekend long, and Stout and Bucknum knew they would had a great chance to give the Mitchum Motorsports team their best finish of the year. Stout was given the responsibility to run the Camaro during qualifying, and he did his team proud qualifying in the second position.

When the green flag dropped Stout quickly took the lead in the race and held onto that lead for the majority of his first stint. A smooth pit stop, which included a driver change, kept the Mitchum Camaro in the front half of the field. It was now Bucknum's turn to use the Mitchum Motorsports machine to finish out the race. Bucknum was catching the leaders until a late yellow flag caused the race to end under caution. This turn of events stopped the momentum, but gave the team a fourth place finish, which is their best on the year.

"The car was phenomenal all race long." Stout continues; "This was more than a great weekend for the team and I. Being able to run in the Top-3 throughout my entire stent really shows the improvement in these cars and our progress as a team. Strategy was a big part and I think the team really hit the nail on the head. A few more laps of green flag racing and I think we would've been seen on the podium! Road America is such a great track, and I'm excited we had the chance to race here this weekend. Jeff ran a great race as well, and it was just an all around great weekend for the Mitchum team."

Bucknum's post race comments echoed those of his co-drivers. "It was such an awesome weekend for the #6 Mitchum Camaro. Road America is such a fast track with tight corners, and our car was able to handle well on every part of the track. It was so fast, and this just shows all of the hard work that this team has put in. Rob is truly a rockstar behind the wheel, and happy for everyone on this team. We now have momentum heading into Laguna Seca. Looking forward to it!"

Following the historic race at Road America Bucknum is currently in 15th in Driver Championship Points Standings. Robert Stout is vying for the MESCO Rookie of the Year Points Championship, and after this week's race he sits in third in GS Class. Mitchum Motorsports is currently ninth in Team Championship Points Standings for the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series.

The next scheduled race for Jeff and Robert will be July 9th on the 2.238-mile, 11-turn, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Salinas, CA. This race can be on SPEED Channel on July 17th at 1pm. All Times Eastern.
