  • (1888PressRelease) July 26, 2011 - BUFFALO, NY - Bryant & Stratton College Online announced today that it will be hosting two webinars at no cost for current Bryant & Stratton College students, prospective students and anyone else interested in understanding how to use social media appropriately and effectively to advance their career. The first free webinar, titled "Social Media Do's and Don'ts," will take place on Wednesday, August 3, from noon to 1:00 p.m. EDT. This career education webinar will show students how to transform social media sites they use in their personal lives into tools they can leverage for career opportunities.

Kim Dority of Dority & Associates, Inc., will lead the webinars. Ms. Dority is a career coach who has been writing about and teaching courses on career development for more than a decade. She has also spoken at numerous national professional conferences on this topic.

"Most students are highly adept when it comes to using social networking tools like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube for keeping connected in their social lives," said Dority. "But, few understand how effective these and other social media tools can be when it comes to boosting their career opportunities - or blowing them up."

The first webinar, "Social Media Do's and Don'ts," will highlight which social networking sites will be most helpful as students and those in the workforce build a career-brand. Other points will include tips on developing a social media strategy that positions being a student as a benefit instead of a drawback, using social media to build a career platform from which to launch job-hunting efforts and which sites will deliver the greatest connection benefits. Additionally, the webinar will provide examples of the kinds of career-damaging online activities that can spell job-hunting disaster now and for years to come.

A second webinar, titled "Build Your Career Opportunities on LinkedIn," will be held on August 17, from noon to 1:00 p.m. EDT. The webinar will teach students how to best use the professional networking site to build a professional brand, gain career visibility and credibility and make professional connections that will lay the groundwork for their future careers. Attendees will also gain a better understanding of how to build a compelling profile, use unique features and tools to apply for posted jobs and create a long-term strategy for building a professional network.

The webinars are offered for free by Bryant & Stratton College Online and are open to current students, prospective students and others seeking information on how social media can help their job search and improve their career opportunities. Those interested in attending are invited to register at http://online.bryantstratton.edu/webinar/.

"There are two sides to the social media coin and it's important that job-seekers understand how their online activities affects their career opportunities, especially students who have grown-up in the social media age," said Scott Traylor, Associate Campus Director for Online Education at Bryant & Stratton College. "Ms. Dority provides a unique perspective on how social media tools can both limit and enhance an individual's career trajectory. We're excited to offer her expertise for free to anyone who is interested. These webinars are designed to help empower people to take control of their job search and better position themselves for professional success."

Everyone who attends one of the social media webinars offered by Bryant & Stratton College Online will be able to download a hand-out recapping the webinar and the top tips they can deploy to pave the path for career success.
