  • (1888PressRelease) October 24, 2011 - Abu Dhabi, UAE: The 5th Abu Dhabi Medical Congress (ADMC), which got underway today at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), was officially inaugurated by His Excellency Zaid Al Siksek, CEO, Health Authority - Abu Dhabi. The event continues on 24 and 25 October, and is expected to attract more than 5000 professionals working in the Primary Healthcare, Emergency, Patient Safety, Rehabilitation and Pharma sectors across the region.

Simon Page, Managing Director, Life Sciences, Informa Exhibitions, said: "The success of the healthcare reforms in Abu Dhabi has been striking and many trends such as greater private involvement in healthcare provision, increased use of ICT, and better public health awareness are set to continue. Meanwhile, capacity will need to expand considerably to keep pace with the growth. All of these issues present challenges, but given the resources available and the long-term strategic planning in place, they are outweighed by the huge opportunities for the Emirates and health investors alike."
Once again, Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) - the main partner at ADMC - is expecting to network with patients and stakeholders, as well as answer questions, inform, take suggestions and complaints to follow the company's mission of continuous improvement to recognised international standards.

"We are based in Abu Dhabi and our company is one of the largest integrated healthcare providers in the region," says Salama Al Mazrouei, Acting Manager Corporate Marketing, SEHA. "These characteristics put us in a position of leadership in this market and we believe it is our obligation to the public, our partners, our vendors, our stakeholder, and the Government of Abu Dhabi, to showcase our growth and accomplishments right here in our own backyard."

Looking ahead to the expected growth of private sector involvement in the healthcare in the UAE, Ms. Al Mazrouei feels that the ADMC brings focus on the vibrancy of the healthcare marketplace in the region, especially in Abu Dhabi.

"It is the fourth year SEHA has participated in this event, which we have found to be an ideal platform for discussing the unique healthcare opportunities within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi," she added. "Our mission is to continuously improve customer care to recognized international standards, and we have made significant progress these past three years towards our goal."

Ms Al Mazrouei explains, "While SEHA is the largest single healthcare provider in the Emirate, and owns and operates 12 hospitals, 62 clinics and two regional blood banks, we represent the public sector only. SEHA's participation at ADMC has included representatives from every one of its individual healthcare entities, including those from: Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), Corniche Hospital, Mafraq Hospital, Al Rahba Hospital, Al Ain Hospital, Tawam Hospital, Ambulatory Healthcare Services, and the six Al Gharbia Region Hospitals."

Alongside the exhibition runs a comprehensive congress programme carefully planned to discuss current goals, review tools for implementation, and meet the challenges of new and emerging healthcare dilemmas in the region. Ten different CME accredited congresses with a panel of more than 250 international speakers analyse the current best approaches for each sector involved in the congress over the next few days.

New for this year is the Current Trends in Pharmaceuticals and Biotechnology Conference that kicked off today with current medical updates and regulations for pharmaceutical products in the UAE, lead by Dr. Yasser Sharif, Section Head-Medication Safety & Medical Product Safety, Health Authority-Abu Dhabi. With recent growth trends indicating the pharmaceutical sector of the GCC will touch US$7.6 billion by 2014 and will grow to US$9.6 billion by 2019, foreign direct investment into the sector will no doubt increase.

Abu Dhabi Medical Congress is open to all trade visitors and healthcare professionals between 9.30am - 5.00pm on Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 Oct. For information about ADMC, please call +971 3365161 or visit www.abudhabimed.com.
