  • Columbia, SC (1888PressRelease) May 14, 2011 - Winston James, Tooling Technician for Kennametal/Akebono, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Winston James's commitment to excellence in Manufacturing.

James, who has a diploma in industrial electricity/electronics and an Associate's Degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology, both from Florence Darlington Technical College, and a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Electronic Engineering Technology from Francis Marion University, began working in his field in August of 2010 after moving eighty miles from his hometown of Florence, South Carolina to Columbia, where his sister lives.

In his current role, James is involved in the cleaning, repairing, calibration and standardization of various metal cutting tools used in the manufacturing and production of automobile brakes. He also acts as a communications liaison between Kennametal and Akebono, since both companies are in contract with one another, to maintain clarity in ensuring that the desirable goals are achieved. He is supported by five other tooling technician coworkers at the company.

"The first one on Kennametal's list of core values is integrity. This is what attracted me to Kennametal," James explained. This one value alone, I believe, sets the standard for our other core values and in effect reinforces their full potential in the accomplishment of their respective functions. It is also one of my greatest strengths."

Inspired by values brought forth by his parents, James would like to eventually go back to school and obtain his master's degree in an engineering or physics discipline. He hopes to become a design engineer, inventing, building, testing and selling various forms of new and innovative cutting edge electronic product devices that will make life simpler in their primary function. In the meantime, he will continue to work hard to prove himself at his company.

James is a former president of the United Methodist Campus Ministry's The Wesley Foundation. In his free time, Winston enjoys reading, bible study, gospel rapping, watching college football and his favorite professional football team, the Pittsburg Steelers.
