  • Pittsburgh, PA (1888PressRelease) January 13, 2012 - Theona F. King, Food Service Supervisor for New Castle Youth Development Center, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Theona F. King's commitment to excellence in Youth Development.

King, who holds AAS degrees in Culinary Arts and Food Service Management from Westmoreland County Community College, completed a dietary manager program through Auburn University Distant Learning and Outreach Technology and is board certified as a Certified Dietary Manager, is a Certified Food Protection Professional and also maintains a ServSafe certification. She has been active in her field since 1995.

Currently overseeing the dietary kitchen at New Castle Youth Development Center, King and her team serve students three meals per day plus snacks. She helps create the menus, standardizes recipes, enters menus into the NutriKids system for nutritional analysis, works with students that have special dietary needs and restrictions, creates forms for all meal production records, determines amounts of food needed on a daily basis, helps order food on a weekly basis, makes schedules, approves leave time for employees and does annual employee performance reviews on dietary staff.

King credits her on-the-job training to be most helpful in her career as well as mentoring received from past supervisors, especially when she was new to school foodservice.

"After working in corrections and then at the nursing home, I realized I enjoyed working with school students by providing them a variety of nutritious meals and encouraging students to eat foods they are not familiar with," King said.

Hoping to become a certified ServSafe instructor so she can teach and test students interested in food service, King is passionate about her future. She is a current member of the American Legion Home Aide Association, Association of Nutrition and Foodservice Professionals (formerly known as Dietary Managers Association), National Association of Professional Women, and National School Nutrition Association. She has also been awarded by the Bureau of Juvenile Justice Services for outstanding performance within the Division of Health Services. She has recently started her own business, King Ventures, LLC, and is currently putting together a website where she will be offering a variety of backyard and garden décor and backyard birding products. When she isn't busy working, Theona enjoys reading, walking and spending time with her family.
