  • Bridgeport, CT (1888PressRelease) September 04, 2010 - Roxane DeAngelis, Structural Design Engineer for Butler America has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.

DeAngelis, who holds an engineering degree, has been working in the industry since 1984. After spending two years doing consulting work in bridge engineering, followed by ten years in aircraft structural design for an aerospace company, and a nine-year hiatus to raise her daughters, DeAngelis settled in with her current company, Butler America, in 2004.

As a structural design engineer, DeAngelis designs airframe structures using the CATIAV5 -dimensional CAD system. The design is something that must ensure that structures are able to endure fatigue loading for their entire design life without failing. In order to achieve balance of performance aerodynamics, materials technology, and manufacturing methods must be accounted for. "Before I started a family I used to travel around the country chasing all the good airframe design jobs with prestigious aerospace companies like Grumman, Boeing, Canadair, Lockheed, and Sikorsky," she explained. "This is why I am so fluent in using this design tool." She also learned how to design mostly metal parts, but has since been introduced to composite parts design as well. She designs the assemblies and the installations of these parts too.

Always good in math, DeAngelis took a CAD course as an elective while she was in college when she realized how inclined she was with structural design. From there, she knew that engineering was the right path for her to pursue. She plans to continue her training in fibersim sometime in the future, which is a composites design tool. She would also like to work on a conceptual design for a new or remodeled aircraft. One of her most noteworthy achievements was when she received an Outstanding Performance Award from Boeing in 1993 for her work on the Boeing 777 commercial aircraft. In her spare time, Roxane enjoys swimming and travel.
