  • Fort Worth-Arlington, TX (1888PressRelease) April 22, 2011 - Rhonda K. Davis, Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant for Plaza Medical Center, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Rhonda K. Davis's commitment to excellence in Nursing and Healthcare.

Davis, who holds a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Texas, is a certified operating room nurse that has been working as an operating room nurse since 1989.

In her current role as a certified registered nurse first assistant in open heart surgery, Davis begins her days by greeting each patient and reviewing their charts and cardiac cath films. She confirms with the surgeon in regards to conduit to be used and the amount needed. She also assists the circulating nurse with positioning and preparing each patient for surgery, amongst other routine tasks to help prepare the surgeon. She also assists with heart valve replacement surgeries when needed.

"Being able to multi-task, adapt to a rapidly changing environment, and remain calm during emergency situations," Davis said, "has certainly been a strength in my success. Learning new surgical techniques, such as endoscopic vein harvesting has also helped greatly as well."

Since the young age of five, after her grandmother's passing, Davis knew that she wanted to work in the healthcare industry. After studying at school and having the opportunity to scrub in for a coronary artery bypass grafting, she knew exactly what area she wanted to work in. Hoping to continue to advance in the surgical setting, she hopes to impress upon hospitals the benefits of utilizing the knowledge and skills of first assistants, how their service can improve employee satisfaction and surgeon and patient satisfaction.

"By improving satisfaction levels, hospitals will reduce employee turnover while increasing volume in the surgical setting," Davis explained.

A member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses, Davis also collects data for a paper being published in medical journals, with her name being listed second to Dr. Reza S. Khalafi. She also continuously collects data on open heart surgery cases for submission into the Society of Thoracic Surgeons National Database. She's been published several times for her poetry works and is a troop leader for the Girl Scouts of America. Davis has been inducted into the Leadership Circle for achieving over one thousand endoscopic vein harvests from the Maquet Company, and will be reaching the fifteen hundred level very soon. In her free time, Rhonda enjoys reading, poetry and spending time with her family.
