  • Madison, WI (1888PressRelease) March 31, 2011 - Lori Williams Black, Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist for General Pediatrics for American Family Children's Hospital, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Lori Williams Black's commitment to excellence in the field of Healthcare.

Black, who holds a BA degree in Pre-Medicine and Biology from Augustana College, a BSN from Northern Illinois University, and a DNP from Rush University, began her career in nursing in 1983 at Lutheran Hospital School for Nurses.

Having a wide range of responsibilities as a pediatric clinical nurse, such as providing education to staff, creating and revising polices and procedures, developing programs, protocols and guidelines for patient care, monitoring compliance for various regulatory agency requirements, Black enjoys the variation of the workload, as no day is ever the same. In addition, she works with students from various area schools of nursing and those staff members new to the practice and acts as a mentor. She also provides consultation for complex patient concerns and helps facilitate the adoption of current nursing research into practice. "Working with a multigenerational workforce is a fascinating experience, especially now that I am in the oldest generation," Black said. "In my current role, I a fortunate enough to be able to influence staff, who in turn can influence every patient they touch."

Planning to continue to strive to keep up with the best practice and to be able to ensure that the hospital is incorporating it so that patients receive the best care possible, Black will continue to guide her staff to be the best they can. "I want the staff to understand that 'the best' will always be changing. We need to be flexible enough to move with that change," she said.

Black is a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, National Association of Neonatal Nurses, Association of Women's Health, Obstetrics and Neonatal Nurses, and the Society of Pediatric Nursing. In her free time, Lori enjoys reading and cross-stitch.
