  • Myrtle Beach-Conway-North Myrtle Beach, SC (1888PressRelease) May 19, 2011 - James Salvatore Gorcesky, Art and Education Technologist for Black Water Middle School, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes James Salvatore Gorcesky's commitment to excellence in Education.

Gorcesky, who currently holds a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art, Animation and Writing for Entertainment from the School of Visual Arts, started teaching art in 2006 at Black Water Middle School.

Teaching six art classes each day to grades six, seven and eight, Gorcesky has his work cut out for him. He also serves as the yearbook advisor, co-running the after school yearbook club. He assists with eighth grade prom decorating, acts as the media liaison for newsworthy events within the school and hosts professional development sessions for the teachers at the school, and for teachers within the county and state.

"Overcoming the challenges of unmotivated students in a demanding middle school art classroom have constantly made me want to reflect upon my work and how I can make my content more engaging," Gorcesky said about his curriculum. "I'm trying to design a new curriculum for my classroom that will be heavily influenced by technology, but still teach artistic core concepts."

Currently pursuing his master's degree in education and instructional technology from Coastal Carolina University, Gorcesky also hopes to write a grant proposal in an effort to get IPads, drawing tablets and/or laptops for his classroom and teach his students to be more technologically savvy.

Gorcesky is a member of the National Arts Education Association. He was the recipient of the 2010-11 Teacher of the Year Award at his middle school and also placed third in the teacher category at the Horry County Technology Fair for instructing teachers on how to utilize an IPad in the classroom. In his free time, James enjoys reading, writing and playing video games.
