  • Bethesda-Frederick-Gaithersburg, MD (1888PressRelease) September 21, 2011 - David C. Shaw, Author and Artist of DCS Portraits, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes David C. Shaw's commitment to excellence in Writing and Art.

Shaw, who holds two Master's Degrees, one in Philosophy from Aquinas Institute and another in Sociology from the University of Chicago, studied art at the American Academy of Art in Chicago before painting and drawing in the Washington, DC area.

As a writer, Shaw has written his first book, Community as Cosmos, an Essay in Natural Theology on Creation. He is intrigued by community.

Shaw said, "Plato saw community as the second greatest thing. "It was second after cosmos. Plato saw the universe as a permanent work of divine art made out of unchangeable material that merited the word cosmos, which means 'the divine idea'. Today we see the universe as made of the same materials as we have on Earth. Our universe is developmental and does not merit the word cosmos. What does? Plato's second greatest thing promoted to the greatest thing."

After he wrote his first book, Shaw noted that he had been civically inactive for the past five years. From there he went on to serve on the board of directors of the Tivoli Community Association. At his request, the board joined the Montgomery County Civic Federation, where he is now a member-at-large of the federation executive committee.

Shaw received the Director's Award for Innovation in 1988 at the Census Bureau for his work developing a new census product called 'County Scope'. The custom CD product assembled all census data for a particular county from the census population, housing, business, geography and governments divisions, along with a Windows program that gave point-and-click access to the data.
