  • Syracuse, NY (1888PressRelease) March 12, 2011 - Candy Gwen Lopitz, Founder of Freedom Beacon Ministries, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Candy Gwen Lopitz's commitment to excellence in the field of Non-Profit.

Lopitz, who holds a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology and Psychology from Mercy College, began working as an intern in counseling while working on her degree, working with mostly battered women, children of dysfunctional and abusive families and substance abusers.

In 2006, Lopitz began treating cult survivors, bringing about her organization, Freedom Beacon Ministries. As founder, she is responsible for maintaining the ministry's website and acting as administrator of two online ex-cult member support groups. She also does public speaking at area churches and colleges to educate the public about the issues of cults. Having written over thirty topical brochures and creator to numerous YouTube videos on various subjects concerning cults, she also authored a book which is due out late this spring, titled Spiritual Battery: Hope for Cult Casualties-Help for Those Assisting Their Recovery. "The cult experience is highly personal to me, especially since I still have family in the cult that I was raised in," Lopitz explained. "My personal experience of defecting from a cult gave me an appreciation for how difficult it is for ex-cult members to integrate into larger society."

With intentions to continue educating the public about cults, Lopitz also aspires to become a consultant for local law enforcement and the court system in cult-related criminal and custody cases. "I have a very real desire to help others because I have an insight into cult-related issues and it urges me to persist in my efforts," she said.

A member of the American Association of Christian Counselors, Lopitz has also completed two certificate programs from Light University. She was also named to the USA Honor Society in 2009. In her free time, Candy enjoys football and sightseeing.
