  • Ann Arbor, MI (1888PressRelease) April 20, 2011 - Alisa Erika Koch, Professor of Rheumatology for the University of Michigan, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Alisa Erika Koch's commitment to excellence in Healthcare.

Koch, who holds an MD from Northwestern University Medical School, began working in her field through the six-year honors program in medical education at Northwestern. After completing her residency in internal medicine at Loyola University, followed by a rheumatology fellowship at Northwestern, she was well on her way.

Patient care, teaching, administration and research are just some of the daily tasks in which Koch partakes. By doing extensive research in rheumatology, with a focus on rheumatoid arthritis angiogenesis, cytokines and cell adhesion molecules, she is considered by her peers to be a 'thought leader'.

"I have always been inspired by the desire to help people," Koch explained. "I want to make an impact on the treatment of rheumatic diseases through such means as research."

Koch is a member of seventeen organizations, including the Association of American Physicians, American College of Rheumatology, American Society for Clinical Investigation and the Central Society for Clinical Research. She has served as a consultant to over thirty companies and as a grant reviewer for the National Institutes of Health, Veterans Administration, and several private organizations, such as the Arthritis Foundation and Scleroderma Foundation. She has been a reviewer for over thirty-five journals and has been an editor for several highly regarded journals in the field of rheumatology, including Arthritis and Rheumatism. She has contributed over two hundred and ten peer-reviewed publications and thirty-three books on rheumatology and angiogenesis, and has edited a book on angiogenesis and disease. Alisa also received the Mark Flapan Award for having one of the two highest ranking grant proposals nationally from the National Scleroderma Foundation.
