  • (1888PressRelease) March 22, 2013 - SDL today announced a significant increase in the adoption of SDL OpenExchange over the last year, driven by the increasing business challenges triggered by Big Data and Big Language. SDL OpenExchange, the app store and development hub for the SDL Language Platform, enables 3rd party integrations and plug-ins to enhance the functionality of SDL products, enabling the translation of omni-channel content in an easier way.

"The explosion of Big Data and the increased focus on customer experience in the enterprise is driving the demand for translators and translation providers to work more effectively to solve the resulting Big Language challenges. They need flexible technology solutions that enable them to address the unique industries and customers they serve." explained Massimo Ghislandi, Vice President of Translation Productivity for the SDL Language Technologies division. "As a result, there is a growing need to build integrations and plug-ins for the distinctive needs of users, which is behind the recent surge of developers joining the SDL OpenExchange Developer Program."

SDL continues to lead with an innovative and flexible approach to its technology solutions and through SDL OpenExchange allows developers to build additional functionality with its open APIs. The functionality of SDL Trados StudioŽ software, for example, can be extended via dozens of apps available on SDL OpenExchange. Over the past year both numbers of developers and app downloads have doubled as users look for new ways to customize their experience with SDL's translation solutions.

"It's all about the community. SDL OpenExchange opens extensive possibilities for all SDL Trados Studio users. It is a platform that helps keep the core products lean and powerful while giving the users the possibility to add additional tools, plug-ins, file format filters, term bases, and much more when they really need them," says Stefan Gentz, Senior Consultant from Tracom OHG. "Our Microsoft Visio Filter for SDL Trados Studio has been a huge success for us and we are planning to release more interesting plug-ins in the near future."

As the app store and development hub of SDL Language Technologies, SDL OpenExchange provides a unique, open industry platform which enables developers to extend and customize the capabilities of industry-leading products such as SDL Trados Studio. It also acts as a web portal for developing, marketing and selling applications and plug-ins that leverage the open architecture of SDL's language technology products. SDL is also the first and only company with open APIs for its world leading translation productivity software.
