  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) April 14, 2011 - On April 12th, 2011 Passion River Films will be releasing the world's first feature length documentary about the game of polo. "The Polo Kid" is a story about a 13-year old immigrant from humble origins and his journey across America, Mexico, and Argentina to become a polo star.

An equestrian sport, polo is one of the oldest, fastest and most dangerous sports on earth, seen as an exclusive world of luxury and privilege. This sport film goes behind the scenes to tell the true story of how Santiago Torres left home, school and family behind to become a polo player.

Santiago Torres' nomadic journey takes him from the deserts of California to Argentina, Florida, New York and Mexico. Behind thrilling sports action is an inspiring and moving human story that provides proof of the American Dream: an immigrant family overcoming tremendous odds to create success of their life in America.

Director Nathaniel McCullagh states that the documentary is "really a coming-of-age story about a boy fulfilling his dreams, and polo is just the vehicle." For a year, McCullagh followed Santiago around the polo game circuit: Wellington, the Hamptons, Argentina, Mexico, and their home base in Santa Barbara, California. The equestrian sport film features several of the world's best polo players, including Adolfo Cambiaso, Mariano Aguerre, and Nacho Figueras, the face of Ralph Lauren.

Herbert Spencer of Polo Times magazine has stated of the film: "Merit and poignancy in a documentary about a US teenage player." Steve Crowder of Polozone has said, "No one thinks he is a little boy on the field. He rides like an Indian and weighs as much as a feather. He can run a hole in the wind and his name is Santi Torres." "The Polo Kid" is also the winner of 'Best Team Sport Documentary' in the Milan F.I.C.T.S. Olympic Festival.
