  • Philadelphia, PA-NJ (1888PressRelease) March 25, 2011 - On Saturday, April 16, 2011, the Montgomery Mall will host its annual Earth Day Celebration in collaboration with Montgomery Township. The event will consist of green activities and offerings for the whole family! The local community is invited to participate in the following earth-friendly activities:

    • 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Free shredding services will be provided by PECO and Bottom Dollar Foods to area residents in the mall's Lot 42 along North Wales Road. There is a limit of two boxes per car. No businesses please.

    • 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. 1-800-GOT-JUNK? will be collecting electronic waste for recycling at no charge in Lot 42. Community members are encouraged to bring computers, laptops, monitors, keyboards, mice, printers, fax machines, stereos, speakers, etc. for recycling. 1-800-GOT-JUNK? will not accept televisions, household appliances or anything with wood in it (i.e., record players). No businesses please.

    • 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Earth-friendly information and demonstrations will be held in Macy's Court on the mall's lower level. The PECO Energy Education Team will be on hand presenting about how to best conserve energy. The green demonstrations will address the topics of composting and the use of rain barrels along with rain and storm water management. There will be representatives available to talk about local bike trails and bike safety. The mall will also have the latest energy efficient cars on display and "green" crafts for children of all ages.

    In addition to these events, Montgomery Township representatives will be handing out reusable tote bags while supplies last, and local environmentally friendly organizations will have tables set up in Macy's Court to share information on their green offerings and services. Some of the participants include Wissahickon Valley Watershed, Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences Cooperative Extension and The Partnership Transportation Management Association (TMA) of Montgomery County.
