BBQ Teams Needed to Compete for $8,000 cash

  • Atlanta, GA (1888PressRelease) January 21, 2011 - DOTHAN, AL- The 6th annual Tri-State BBQ Festival is still accepting teams who wish to compete for their share of $8,000 in cash prizes, trophies and bragging rights. The event is recognized throughout the Southeastern United States as a top-notch competition with quality, trained judges and a friendly, knowledgable staff.

    Teams have come to compete from as far as Ohio, Texas and New Mexico, as well as regional favorite teams from Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia, Alabama and Florida. Many of the professional competition teams are nationally ranked competitors, including Myron Mixon of TLC channel's hit show, BBQ Pitmasters. Teams competing in the professional division can win cash by placing in first through fifth place. Grand prize is $2,000 and reserve champion wins $1,000. Pro teams also can win cash in each of the four meat categories; chicken, ribs, pork butt and beef brisket.

    There is also a "backyard" division for teams new to competition BBQ, or just wanting to come out and have fun with their friends. The Backyard teams compete for $500 cash as well as the mayors cup in each meat category and bragging rights for the rest of the year.

    Both levels of competitors can compete in the People's Choice/ Southern Hospitality competition. This is a spectator-vote event, where people in attendance can sample BBQ and vote for their favorites. There is $500 up for grabs in this extra event that is a crowd favorite.

    Besides being a stop on the Florida Bar-B-Que competition tour, it is a qualifier for the Jack Daniels Invitational BBQ competition in Lynchburg, TN. The winner in the professional division will have their name put into the drawing for a space to represent the state of Alabama at the "Jack."

    The Tri-State BBQ festival takes place each year in Dothan, Alabama at the Houston County Farm Center. Dothan is conveniently located in the southeast corner of the state, in close proximity to I-10 and other highways that make for easy travel. Space is limited to the first forty professional teams and twenty-five backyard teams who register.
