  • (1888PressRelease) March 11, 2022 - Berlin GreenTech startup Swobbee has raised nearly 6 million euros in new funding. New on board as an investor and strategic partner is EIT InnoEnergy, the innovation engine for sustainable energy across Europe supported by the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union. EIT InnoEnergy as well as the startup’s existing investor have each contributed almost 3 million euros to the overall financing. With the fresh capital, Swobbee is planning to further develop its battery platform and massively expand its battery swapping station network for electric micromobility across Germany and its neighbouring European countries.

Founded in 2017, Swobbee is the world’s first provider of battery swapping stations, with a multi-modal approach that enables the micromobility boom. With more and more micromobility vehicles being deployed in cities worldwide, for both personal transport as well as last mile logistics, these stations enable the rapid exchange and charging of batteries for a wide variety of electric micromobility vehicles, independent of the manufacturer. This innovation makes Swobbee’s swapping stations a central part of a sustainable urban transport infrastructure and part of a huge growth market whose potential, according to a recent market analysis by Porsche Consulting, will be around 30 billion euros by 2030 in Europe and North America alone. Numerous well-known partners such as the micromobility provider Tier Mobility, Europe’s leading parking space manager Apcoa and the leading logistics companies Hermes and DPD rely on Swobbee solutions in joint pilot projects.

Now, with EIT InnoEnergy, a new strategic investor and partner joins Swobbee’s growing ecosystem.

“We are very pleased to have such a renowned, globally active partner at our side in EIT InnoEnergy. This is not only confirmation that we are on the right track, but also the starting point for being able to take further investors on board with the scaling that is now starting,” explains Thomas Duscha, CEO and co-founder of Swobbee.

The support of EIT InnoEnergy is not only of a financial nature. With its special know-how in building and scaling young GreenTech companies as well as its large international partner ecosystem, it will closely support Swobbee in business development and entry into new markets in the coming years.

Jennifer Dungs, Thematic Field Leader for Transport and Mobility at EIT InnoEnergy, comments: “Micromobility plays a decisive role in our cities’ mobility transition. All the more important it is to establish comprehensive networks of high-performance battery charging and swapping stations for all the different types of vehicles. With its manufacturer-agnostic technology platform, Swobbee has the full package of what it takes to occupy an outstanding position in the market.”
