Barbados to Host the First Ever Legacy Capacity Summit

Casting Nets, Catching Futures: Leading with Purpose, Leaving a Legacy.
- (1888PressRelease) May 30, 2025 - Bridgetown, Barbados – A transformative new event is set to debut on the island: the inaugural Legacy Capacity Summit, hosted by the Financial Implications of Slavery Heritage (FISH), taking place June 4–8, 2025, at the Hilton Barbados Resort.
This five-day summit is positioned as more than a traditional conference. It is a convening of families, educators, youth leaders, and changemakers from across Barbados and the diaspora, coming together to explore legacy, identity, generational wealth, and purpose.
Against the backdrop of ongoing challenges such as unresolved land disputes, inheritance issues, wealth disparities, and cultural erosion—particularly within Caribbean communities—the summit aims to offer actionable tools, meaningful dialogue, and culturally rooted insight to support stability, connection, and empowerment. From legal professionals and legacy advisors to grassroots leaders, attendees can expect to gain both practical knowledge and lasting inspiration.
A central feature of the summit is a tribute to the legendary Dr. Maya Angelou, whose life and legacy have shaped generations around the globe. The Lighthouse Legacy Award will be presented to Ms. Thamiah Tutt, President and CEO of the Dr. Maya Angelou Foundation, in recognition of her commitment to advancing Angelou’s vision of equity, education, and empowerment.
The summit will also introduce the Horizon of Hope Award, which will recognize an exceptional educator who has made a significant impact within their school and community. This award emphasizes the critical role that educators play in shaping future generations and fostering national resilience.
Designed as a cultural experience as much as a professional gathering, the Legacy Capacity Summit integrates interactive workshops, community panels, cultural storytelling, and networking opportunities. From beachside wellness sessions and youth financial literacy games to a documentary fireside chat and a tribute to Dr. Angelou, the summit blends strategy with culture, and knowledge with connection.
The 2025 Legacy Capacity Summit will also formally honor Dr. Maya Angelou in a dedicated tribute highlighting her enduring influence on global thought and cultural identity. Her contributions to literature, education, and human rights continue to inspire purposeful leadership and authentic expression.
“My wish for you is that you continue. Continue to be who and how you are, to astonish a mean world with your acts of kindness.” — Dr. Maya Angelou
The Legacy Capacity Summit invites families, educators, leaders, and community advocates to reflect on the past, fortify the present, and shape a future grounded in legacy and shared prosperity.
