Author, Michael R. Burns is pleased to announce the release of his memoir, The Valley Rat: Steaming Across the Face of Life.
The Valley Rat is a coming of age story of the author while growing up in the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas during the sixties. The book is divided into ten chapters that cover his early life through college years, elaborating on the hard scrabble struggle from finding his way in a lower/middle class upbringing and escaping the mediocrity of this life and finally flourishing into a productive, happy soul.
The book highlights his exploits as a competitive swimmer, surfer and waterman in the vanguard of these early sports, including month long surfing surfari's to Matzatlan and San Blas on the Pacific Coast of Mexico. Three chapters encapsulate Burns’ relationships with three of his most influential friends, including the unsolved murder of his roommate and best friend, who died at the hands of a notorious Mexican cartel in 1967.
Michael R. Burns’ exploits in hunting and fishing trips and his struggles in getting to know the opposite sex are also portrayed. Finally, all of the off job, work experiences that he held illustrate the desire to better his current position in life and point him in the right direction to prosper.

About The Author:
Michael Burns has a BS in Psychology and MS in Management from Texas A&M University. He spent eleven years working for Southwestern Bell and AT&T in sales and marketing. Mr. Burns has founded and operated three telecom companies over the last thirty five years. He has also written two other non-fiction books, Telemarketing, Setting Up For Success and The Boomer's Guide to Recovering Your Lost Retirement.
