Author K. Michelle Edge Announces Upcoming Release of New Children’s Book, “Carl’s Fish Farm: An Introduction to Aquaculture"
K. Michelle Edge, a bestselling author, and illustrator of children’s stories, has announced the upcoming release of her latest book, “Carl’s Fish Farm,” on May 3, 2022. An educational children’s picture book, “Carl’s Fish Farm” will introduce young readers to aquaculture and educate them about this growing American food source. Told from the viewpoint of a personable catfish, fun rhymes engage young readers as they spend a day with Carl, who gives a tour of his daily life on a South Georgia fish farm and introduces them to other organisms that were also raised in aquacultures, such as algae, salmon, alligators, and oysters. The book contains real-life environmental photos and illustrations of Carl, a glossary of common aquaculture words, and the biographies of successful career-oriented individuals in the aquaculture community, including water consultants and professors, so young readers can imagine careers in the field.
The “Carl’s Fish Farm” story was inspired by Michelle Edge’s love for aquatic life. The self-proclaimed “fish farmer’s daughter” grew up on a family farm with family values, where she quickly developed a passion for the environment, fishing, and the companionship it brings. The story is loosely based on the catfish mascot for “Edge’s Aquatic Services,” a fish farm and lake management company in Soperton, Georgia.

K. Michelle Edge is the author and illustrator of numerous children’s titles, including her autobiographical series, “The Adventures of Sissy Dog.” A fish farmer’s daughter, Michelle spent her childhood in nature growing up on the family farm in Soperton, Georgia. As an adult, her love for the environment quickly turned into falconry, SCUBA diving, rockhounding, sea turtle conservation, coral reef restoration, and wildlife rehabilitation. Michelle has a B.S. in Natural Resources from Oregon State University, where she graduated cum laude as a first-generation student.
