  • Miami, FL (1888PressRelease) April 26, 2022 - An entertaining children’s picture book, Carl’s Fish Farm educates young readers about the ins and outs of aquaculture. Told from the viewpoint of a personable catfish, fun rhymes engage young readers as they spend a day with Carl, who gives a tour of his daily life on a South Georgia fish farm and introduces them to other organisms that were also raised in aquacultures, such as algae, salmon, alligators, and oysters. The book contains real-life environmental photos and illustrations of Carl, a glossary of common aquaculture words, and the biographies of successful career-oriented individuals in the aquaculture community, including water consultants and professors, so young readers can imagine careers in the field.

The “Carl’s Fish Farm” story was inspired by Michelle Edge’s love for aquatic life. The self-proclaimed “fish farmer’s daughter” grew up on a family farm with family values, where she quickly developed a passion for the environment, fishing, and the companionship it brings. The story is loosely based on the catfish mascot for “Edge’s Aquatic Services,” a fish farm and lake management company in Soperton, Georgia.

“I am excited to announce the upcoming release of ‘Carl’s Fish Farm,’ my latest children’s story,” remarked K. Michelle Edge. “I believe that being connected to nature and its processes is important. This book educates young readers about American aquaculture and instills a passion for reading and learning about the field as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts an increased dependence on marine aquaculture production,” she added.
