African-American Experience." The calendar will be unveiled on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at an event at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts, which will be attended by honorees and their families.

Winston C. Cavin, lecturer at UNC, selected four students to assist with the project. Each student was given the opportunity to interview and write profiles of honorees, which will be published in the calendar and on the website. The participating students are: Katie Holt, a junior from Chapel Hill, Nora Chan, a senior and senior class president from Gaithersburg, Md., Justine Berger, a junior from Raleigh and Jamie Gnazzo, a junior from Richmond, Va.

The Heritage Calendar project will honor men and women of all races who have contributed significantly to the lives and experiences of African-Americans in the state. In addition to monthly honorees, the calendar will also highlight dates of significance in North Carolina and the nation. AT&T has plans to provide a printed version of the calendar, as well as an online version, in addition to interactive materials which educators can use in classrooms statewide.
