  • Boston, MA-NH (1888PressRelease) June 28, 2011 - The Arthritis Foundation is seeking walkers of all ages to form teams for the 15th Anniversary Boston Arthritis Walk on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the DCR's Artesani Park in Brighton, MA. The event offers 1- and 3- mile walk routes along the Charles River as well as activities for non-walkers. A post-walk celebration and health fair will follow with food, music, entertainment and plenty of fun for the whole family. Proceeds from the event will support the Arthritis Foundation's mission to improve the lives of people with arthritis through medical research, public health programs and public policy efforts.

Arthritis is the nation's leading cause of disability, impacting 50 million Americans, or one in five adults. The disease strikes people of all ages, including 300,000 children in the United States. Here in Massachusetts nearly 1.5 million adults and 5,900 children suffer from the debilitating effects of the disease.

The Boston Arthritis Walk not only raises money for research and patient/community services, but it also serves as a means to raise public awareness about the disease and to provide support to those affected. Additionally, the Arthritis Foundation is working to inform the public of the benefits of physical activity to ease the pain of arthritis or prevent some forms from developing. Let's Move Together is an initiative of the Arthritis Foundation designed to inspire people to move every day to prevent or treat arthritis, encouraging daily physical activity for better health and participation in the Boston Arthritis Walk. Physical activity, such as walking, is crucial to managing joint pain, improving mobility and reducing fatigue often associated with arthritis.

The Arthritis Foundation is hoping that Let's Move Together and the Arthritis Walk will lead people to take action both to improve their own lives and the lives of others with arthritis. Events like the Arthritis Walk are perfect starting points for people who are committed to taking steps to improve their health and limit the impact of arthritis. In fact, walking for just 30 minutes per day can ease joint pain, improve joint mobility and reduce fatigue. The Arthritis Foundation is making it easy for people to jumpstart their walking program with a 1 or 3-mile route at the 2011 Boston Arthritis Walk.

If you have arthritis or know someone who does, you can help find a cure by participating in this inspirational event. Walkers are encouraged to form Arthritis Walk Teams by recruiting friends, family members, neighbors, co-workers or classmates to join them in bringing help and hope to millions.
