  • (1888PressRelease) April 24, 2012 - Hollywood, Florida - The Native Learning Center, a Seminole Tribe of Florida program dedicated to the development of cultural and quality of life skills for all Native and Indigenous people, announces that the 4th Annual Summer Conference Agenda is now live, register now! The 4th Annual Summer Conference will be hosted at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Hollywood, FL on June 5-7, 2012.

    The 4th Annual Summer Conference highlights include, but are not limited to:

    -"U.S. Department of the Interior - Indian Loan Guaranty Program" - Tuesday, June 5, 3:30pm - 5:00pm; Wednesday, June 6, 10:45am - 12:15pm; and Thursday, June 7, 3:30pm - 5:00pm

    Instructor, Shannon Loeve, Division of Capital Investment, Office of Indian Energy and Economic Development, and is a member of Northern Arapaho Tribe. This course will address the specifics of the U.S. Department of the Interior Indian Loan Guaranty Program, including benefits that may be passed on to the borrower, and describes how the program is accessed.

    -"Tribal Constitutions, Bylaws and Ordinances: Developing and Rewriting Your Documents" - Thursday, June 7, 9:00am - 5:00pm
    Instructor - Patina Park, Falmouth Institute, and is a member of Cheyenne River Sioux. In this course, you'll discover how your constitution impacts the way you govern; tools to help you use your constitution to manage your Tribal organization; how to work within the bounds of your constitution as you develop ordinances; and how to amend your Tribal constitution to meet the needs of your growing and changing Tribe.

    -"Basics of the IHBG Formula" - Tuesday, June 5, 9:00am - 12:15pm
    Instructors, Mindi D' Angelo, FirstPic, Inc. and Dr. Peggy Cuciti, University of Colorado, Denver.

    This course will provide a general overview of how the IHBG Formula is managed, how allocations are calculated based on FCAS and needs, and the sources of data used in calculating a Tribe's IHBG allocation.

    -"Essential Skills of Grant Writing" - Wednesday, June 6, 9:00am - 5:00pm and Thursday, June 7, 9:00am - 5:00pm
    Instructor, Wanda Belgrade, Dane Consulting and Technical Services, and is a member of Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians.

    This course offers a state-of-the-art approach for grant writing. The focus will be on the development of the grant proposal and program evaluation. Hands on guidance will occur and participants will develop a work plan for future use.

    -"How to Form and Grow a Non-Profit Tribal Language Institute" - Tuesday, June 5, 9:00am - 12:15pm
    Instructor, Claudette Robertson, is a member of Muscogee (Creek) Nation.

    In this course, you will learn how to draft your own 501(c)(3) application to establish a non-profit organization and support your language and cultural projects.

    -"Introduction to the Native Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) Development Services Program" - Thursday, June 7, 1:45pm - 3:15pm
    Instructor, William Guevara, First Nations Oweesta Corporation.

    This course is intended for individuals and organizations that have an interest in looking at CDFI development, the services that are required components of the CDFI, and to improve customers' financial wellness to create assets within the community.

    This design and planning workshop will examine case studies and explore ways to rethink the way housing and communities are built on reservations, and to envision a new kind of housing that reflects ancient traditions and responds to climate while utilizing modern technologies and materials.
