  • (1888PressRelease) July 07, 2010 - OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - The American Precious Metals Exchange (www.APMEX.com), one of the largest companies for precious metals, who last year shipped over 150,000 individual orders representing 7,423,218 units to customers, announced today that Michael Haynes, a 30-year veteran of the precious metal and rare coin markets, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer.

"We are pleased to have Michael Haynes join APMEX as our Chief Executive Officer to both continue and accelerate our growth for the future," said Chairman of the Board and Founder Scott Thomas. "He brings both public company and private company experience in high growth companies, and we look forward to sharing and benefitting from his vast experience. His leadership in our senior executive team will be critical to our rapidly growing operations and to increasing the satisfaction of our customers in every transaction."

In the precious metal and rare coin business, Haynes has served as Chief Executive Officer of Collectors Universe, the owner of Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), the largest grading service for rare coins and bullion coins, and former owner of Bowers and Merena Galleries, one of the oldest rare coin auction firms in the United States. During Haynes' tenure at Collectors Universe, he directed the acquisition of the Long Beach Coin Show, the Certified Coin Exchange and CoinFacts. Haynes has also served as the President of A-Mark Precious Metals, where he led the acquisition of Goldline, a retailer of precious metals, from Deak Perrera. In addition, Haynes served as President of Heritage Galleries, where he was in the forefront of the formation of Heritage Auctions, now the third largest collectible auctioneer in the United States. Haynes is also one of the original founders of the Industry Council for Tangible Assets (ICTA), a Washington-based trade association for rare coin and precious metal dealers.

"It is a great privilege to join the team at APMEX, where Scott Thomas has directed the growth of the company, combining the excellent service with a simple, user-friendly Internet-based trading platform," explained Haynes. "In today's marketplace, gold and other precious metals are key elements in realizing some of the potential of these assets in stabilizing the individual portfolio and setting a baseline of asset hedging and security in what is rapidly becoming a more volatile currency dependent financial world. It is our objective to bring gold and precious metals ownership to every person who seeks protection from the unpredictability of government debt and spending as these factors impact their local currency, while providing easy and direct access to gold and precious metals products with superior service and support."
