American Nuclear Society Sponsors 17th Annual Utility Working Conference

  • (1888PressRelease) August 17, 2011 - LaGrange Park, IL - The American Nuclear Society (ANS) will sponsor its 17th annual Utility Working Conference & Vendor Technology Expo in Hollywood, FL, August 14-17, Interim Executive Director Roger W. Tilbrook announced today. "This meeting is the premier opportunity for leaders in the world of nuclear power production to share their knowledge. The theme describes how these dedicated men and women approach their work and what we hope to accomplish during the conference," Tilbrook remarked.

    The meeting will feature many sessions encompassing all aspects of utility operations, from safety to workforce development, security to maintenance, and regulatory relations to risk management. In addition, the conference features a Vendor Technology Expo, with 100 exhibitors demonstrating the latest in technology equipment and studies in the industry. In fact, the Expo has become so popular that the Society has outgrown its former Utility Working Conference location and is holding the conference for the first time in Hollywood, FL.

    When asked about this year's Utility Working Conference, ANS President Eric P. Loewen PhD, noted, "We're very happy to welcome industry professionals from around the world for this important event, and we're honored to have John W. Rowe, James O. Ellis Jr. and Charles J. Camarda as keynote speakers. Equally important will be the two sessions we're hosting on 'lessons learned' from Fukushima, which demonstrates how our members constantly and eagerly learn from each other to create a culture of safety and to provide for the promise of nuclear energy for all of us."

    Established in 1954, ANS is a professional organization of engineers and scientists devoted to the peaceful applications of nuclear science and technology. Its 11,600 members come from diverse technical backgrounds covering the full range of engineering disciplines as well as the physical and biological sciences.
