AIU's 89th Annual Meet Concluded at LPU with Resolutions to Promote Excellence in Higher Education

  • (1888PressRelease) June 03, 2015 - Association of Indian Universities' (AIU's) 89th Annual General Meeting (AGM) concluded at Lovely Professional University, today, with various resolutions to promote excellence in Higher Education. On the last day of the 3-day conference three sessions (General, Business & Valedictory) were chaired by AIU President Prof H M Desai and co-chaired by Secretary General Prof Furqan Qamar. 200 Vice Chancellors and other delegates from across country participated in all the sessions to express their commitment for having consensus on policies and initiatives for bringing revolutionary reconstruction in higher education. Prof Dr D Pathak (Vice Chancellor KN Modi University) presented brief report about discussions held & deliberations made during all the nine technical and non technical sessions of the conference.

    During valedictory session presently AIU Vice President & would be President from July 2015, Prof Ranbir Singh (Vice Chancellor, National Law College New Delhi) appreciated LPU in all its functions. Explaining he said: "If we have a kind of leadership to consider all our associates as members of one family, as a team, we definitely succeed. Indians are good for having spirit of collectiveness and so 24 CEOs of top companies across globe, including Mr Satya Nadella, are all Indians. On these lines, we should all work collectively as a team to keep on progressing to achieve our goals set in Higher Education."AIU Secretary General Prof Furqan Qamar also stressed on working together and thanked all Vice- Chancellors to assemble in a large number for the cause of Higher Education in India. Appreciating the role of private universities, he asked all to aspire for quality and excellence as there are numerous challenges in the field of higher education. Focus is to be improved in all prospects in different areas of education.

    Thanking AIU for having faith in LPU for hosting such a mammoth gathering of intellectuals, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal desired: "As the biggest association in the realms of education, AIU should show its strength to regulatory bodies for having proper consultation with AIU before formulating/implementing any rules regulations." Mr Mittal also suggested that AIU should act as a mentor to encourage & guide member universities to participate massively in all organizations and developmental strategies.

    Prof Dr ADN Bajpai (Vice Chancellor Himachal University Shimla); Prof Dr Chanderkala Padia (MGSU University Bikaner); and, many others also shared their positive feed backs about the host university and the organizing AIU. On all the three days, the main highlights were fruitful discussions on 'Themes Indentified for the 'New Education Policy'; 'National Initiatives on Skilling India'; 'Promotion of Excellence in Higher Education'; 'Quality Assurance for Excellence in Higher Education' , 'Global Rankings' and 'Leveraging Technology in Higher Education'.

    Illustrative, Lovely Professional University had hosted three-day 89th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) from 23rd to 25th May 2015. This mega event of the apex Inter-University body of Higher Education in India was attended by vast assemblage of Vice Chancellors, HRD Ministry officials, heads of apex bodies of higher education including UGC, NCTE, IITs, CII, RCI and more. The conference had different sessions for exchange of ideas and to gather consensus on policies and initiatives for excellence in higher education in the country. Prof Ved Parkash, Chairman, University Grants Commission had chaired the inaugural session.
