    RSW/ US managing partner Mark Sneider says the top reason agencies cite for lack of new business isn't fewer opportunities, it's the inability to break through to the prospects. Translation? They can't seem to make enough time to do the work necessary to get in front of the right people making the decisions, Sneider says. And, Sneider emphasizes that new business outreach cannot be a "start and stop exercise."

    The survey information finds that agencies doing things "the same way they've always done them" are performing poorest, although interestingly agencies are actually more optimistic about obtaining new clients than they were the year before.

    "In this ever-changing world of the marketing of marketing services, managing your new business program the same old way simply isn't going to be sustainable," Sneider explains. "New business must be approached far more aggressively, and leaders have to get more of the entire agency team to embrace the spirit of new business, stay at it and realize they may not be able to do it all themselves."

    The survey found that a timely approach by an agency has proven successful, as well as "general, awareness" of an agency, which Sneider points out reinforces the fact that agencies must stay at it constantly and consistently.
