  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) November 12, 2013 - Adelphi University's Department of Dance proudly presents Fall Dance Adelphi: Wolfgang. This season, students will rehearse with a member of the Parsons Dance Company and perform David Parsons' critically acclaimed work Wolfgang. Along with Mr. Parsons' piece, they will dance to original and re-staged works by their distinguished faculty. The shows are scheduled from December 4, 2013 through December 8, 2013 in the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center (AUPAC) Olmsted Theatre, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY.

Set to Mozart's "Symphony No. 25 in G Minor", David Parsons' Wolfgang takes the phrasing and style of ballet and infuses it with a thrilling and modern energy. Dance major Alyssa Weidman '14, from Flushing, Queens says, "this dance work is so energetic and lively to perform. The music is so moving and inspiring." She adds that she is thrilled to be performing alongside such an outstanding dance cast. Weidman has already performed in previous seasons of Dance Adelphi and danced to works such as Christopher Flemming's Tommy a Rock Ballet, Jacques Cebron's "Carmina", Orion Duckstein's "Desirium", Amy Marshall's 'Riding the Purple Twilight", Martha Graham's "Acts of Light", and Catherine Lawrence's "State of Mind."

Along with Wolfgang by David Parsons, the students will be performing original and re-staged works by their distinguished faculty members: Orion Duckstein, Catherine Denisot-Lawrence and Adelheid Strelick have created new works and Frank Augustyn is restaging excerpts from classical ballets for the event. "Learning and choreography of the two pieces I am in was already completed by October, which is pretty early. We now have two whole months to perfect these pieces for the show at the beginning of December," shares Madison Rajchyaba '16. Rachabya is from Saskatchewan, Canada and a dance major and also in the pre-dental program at Adelphi. She has performed in a music video by Jasmine Singh, Swan Lake during Spring Dance Adelphi and Martha Graham's "Acts of Light".

"I feel that the audience is going to really love the title piece of the concert, Wolfgang," says Kenneth Michael Murray '15, a dance major from Sayville, New York. He adds that he absolutely loves the choreography and says "it is very physical, but at the same time has [a] long and sultry feel. It's stunning. I am looking forward to see everyone's reaction to this piece." Murray has been cast in every Dance Adelphi since his freshman year. He has performed in works by Martha Graham, Jacques Cesbron, Frank Augustyn, Jennifer Kreichman, Catherine Denisot Lawrence, Orion Duckstein, Pascal Rioult, and Amy Marshall. Apart from dance, Murray is an active member of his fraternity Delta Chi and serves as the current secretary of the Greek Club.

A dance major from Massapequa, New York, Shana Goldberger '14 has performed in about a dozen of performances including Orion Duckstein's "Love 15", Martha Graham's "Helios" and Frank Augustyn's "L'Apparition de l'Ange" to name a few. She also appeared in Sleeping Beauty directed by Frank Augustyn and Swan Lake directed by Jennifer Kreichman. "We as dancers need to do our homework by understanding the focus and vision that the choreographers want and we have to create that vision through our bodies." She adds that the constant practice and listening to the music-each time with a different perspective-makes the "process a journey-a hard but increasingly enjoyable and thrilling journey of discovery and love."
