The 12 high school students selected for the award demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and leadership as club officers, athletes, tutors, volunteers, and performers. The students' letters of recommendation further attested to their abilities and dedication as both students and citizens.

Recipients were granted a $1,000 stipend, six university credits of their choice, and a commemorative clock. They were also invited to attend cultural events featuring visiting scholars, artists, and political figures during the 2013-2014 academic year.
