  • Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV (1888PressRelease) July 19, 2013 - The Academy has formed an alliance with Huntington College of Health Sciences (HCHS.edu), and together they are pleased and proud to offer a fully-accredited Doctor of Health Science (DHS) in Integrative Healthcare with a concentration in Functional Medicine. After five years in development, the DHS program is virtually unlike any other doctorate program available in the U.S. or abroad. This dynamic, professional doctoral program is designed to provide healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to take an integrative approach to patient care through the application of principles associated with functional medicine, complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), and other integrative healthcare topics. It also prepares graduates to manage a CAM practice and to conduct CAM-oriented research. The DHS program has an extra-added benefit of being offered exclusively online, leaving no residential requirements.

In addition to completing the Academy's present basic sciences, didactic course, students will also be expected to complete the Academy's brand-new clinically-focused, practicum course. In addition, through prior agreement with course instructors, students will also enhance their learning activity by engaging in various sources of information. This may include any combination of the following: attending symposiums or seminars, reading textbooks or scientific literature, participate in a research project, or participate in a professional activity related to the health sciences.

The DHS program culminates in a capstone project in which the student demonstrates learning achieved throughout the program. The capstone project may take different forms, including writing a dissertation, designing and executing a practicum, or planning and executing a project. A maximum of 9-credit hours may be transferred from previously completed graduate courses from other accredited institutions.
