  • Boston, MA-NH (1888PressRelease) June 21, 2011 - No! Not skydiving or racecar driving! It was as a volunteer coordinating material, labor and the construction of a The Room to Dream Foundation project.

Cory Desjardin, President of New England Design & Construction in collaboration with architect Michael Collins of D. Michael Architects, and interior designer Dennis Duffy of Duffy Design Group created a room for The Room to Dream Foundation.

Finding out about the mission of The Room to Dream Foundation which is to create healing environments for chronically-ill children the New England Design and Construction team knew they wanted help. Cory said "I contacted Michael Collins, Architect and Board Member of the Foundation in the fall of 2010 offering to help on one of the projects and was pleased to find we could contribute our expertise to the community."

New England Design and Construction, Owner Dave Supple, is not new to community service having helped their Production Officer fly to Haiti after the earthquake to assist the people of Haiti said "It was an honor to contribute building " Xavier's Room" which involved a complete redesign and decorating.

Dave was delighted that Cory worked with both Michael Collins and Dennis Duffy designing a feasible solution for Xavier's room. A room he shares with his sister Jennifer in Lynn. Though a small room, the challenges were large and outcome of many drafts and revisions the final plans called for a set of bunk beds. These, however, were no ordinary bunk beds but a set with stairs to the top which contained drawers to maximize space and a bottom bunk with built in drawers, a wonderful cubby behind the stairs for keeping those precious toys and stuffed animals neatly tucked away and workplace desk and chair.

The dream weekend was 48 hours of whirlwind activity which started on a Friday and completed on Sunday just moments before the family returned the project was completed without a minute to spare. Xavier was delighted with her new space. Cory said "It was a productive and wonderful weekend. I want to thank The Room to Dream Foundation for their fine work and wish Xavier sweet dreams."
