  • (1888PressRelease) November 01, 2013 - The English version of the 6-week, interactive program will be delivered by an Emmy Award-winning video journalist. There is also a version in Hindi.

9.9 SoC Associate Dean - Career Services, Gunjan Aggarwal, said all those who applied would receive a Full Scholarship for the program. The best participants would win a week-long coaching session with a video collaborator for The New York Times' "India Ink" blog.

"Students will learn the basics of shooting and editing a video story," Gunjan said. "All they need to take part is internet access and a simple video camera or phone/device with video and audio capabilities. The instructor will provide one-on-one mentoring. By the end of the course, graduates will know how to produce a compelling report that combines video, sound and storytelling."

Participants will learn the fundamentals of image composition, as well as basic shooting, editing and sound recording techniques, through practical exercises. Instructors - whether working in English or Hindi - will provide weekly critiques of videos.

"ICFJ is delighted to collaborate with 9.9 SoC on this exciting initiative, which will allow students and journalists to use the Internet to get personalized, hands-on experience in video storytelling," said Sharon Moshavi, ICFJ's Vice President, New Initiatives. "Journalists and communications professionals who have these skills are a valuable commodity in India's transforming economy."

Gunjan said students and working journalists interested in making their own documentaries or becoming citizen journalists would find the program valuable. "It represents a great opportunity for students to learn from an international expert who will bring in best practices from around the world. Making a program like this is only possible through the scholarship offered by ICFJ. We're delighted to get someone as senior and reputed as their faculty, Emmy Award-winning journalist and filmmaker, Pierre Kattar, to run the course in English."

Associate Dean - Admissions & Marketing, Bejoy Suri, said Video Storytelling was SoC's second online course. "In our first online offering, a Digital Marketing program, we had students learn through their mobile phone. We were very excited about how deeply you can learn - more than traditional formats - using online. Someone sitting in a Tier 2 or 3, such as Kanpur, Lucknow or Guwahati, can do the program sitting at home. Every year we have seen a lot of demand coming from non-metros. This is an amazing opportunity for these students to learn at home making use of technology."

The program duration is December 2, 2013 to January 10, 2014 and the deadline for applications is November 25.

    • All selected participants receive full scholarship
