  • (1888PressRelease) December 15, 2015 - About the Book: Tom Grace, a Brisbane surgeon, attempts to find his seemingly kidnapped lover, Kaye Reynolds, in Afghanistan. Instead, he is abducted by a terrorist leader and arms dealer, Ahmed Bakir, and flown to Marseille as Bakir's prisoner. Tom had no idea that Kaye was working with the Afghanistan Women's Revolutionary Association (AWRA) alongside its leader, Minnah Meutton, a beautiful French-educated Afghan. Bakir hates Minnah's liberal husband and has him murdered. Amadullah, a devout Muslim and Minnah's brother, seeks revenge; it's a matter of honour. The action shifts to Marseille where Kaye is seduced by Bakir and becomes his lover and psychological prisoner.

This is a complex struggle between fanaticism, hypocrisy and self-interest. The demands of Islam compete with decaying European values, which is played out in the context of two complicated and poignant love affairs with harrowingly different outcomes.

    About the Author:
Bruce Alexander Logan graduated from the University of Auckland and Queensland University. He has worked as a Secondary school teacher, Director of New Zealand Education Development Foundation, and Director of the Maxim Institute (NZ) and now lives in Christchurch, New Zealand. He has published over 100 articles in various magazines and newspapers including The New Zealand Herald, The Dominion, The Christchurch Press, The Otago Daily Times and Sunday Star Times on topics ranging across education, politics, social and welfare issues, and cultural issues such as multiculturalism and political correctness. He has also published another book entitled "Two Women, Two Worlds".

    Excerpt from the Book:
"The three accursed creatures were forced to kneel in the penalty area of the football field and bow their heads. Minnah wondered if the symbolism was accidental. It had to be; it was altogether too subtle. Three executioners, each with a ubiquitous ever ready Kalashnikov, stood behind the condemned. Each fired, with what had to be an infernal cacophony, two rounds into the head of each kneeling victim, the woman last. Again the cry came, 'Allahu Akbar'.

A rush of confused emotions surged through Minnah's body, a swelling black anger rushed to assert its power. Around the ground, compassion dried up as readily as the arid earth drank up the dusty brown blood from the prisoners' wounds. Islam, her Islam, had been turned into a travesty. Indeed, had she not seen the horror spin out before her, Minnah would have declared such an execution in Afghanistan impossible. Where would Afifa find justice now? Surely there must be a higher court somewhere to put things right.

Overwhelmed by a debilitating muddle of anger and grief, Minnah filed out of the grounds, tears blurring her vision. She hoped, very soon, she would wake up from a terrible dream. Her university friends, who she had seen only a few days ago, shriveled from her consciousness like ripening fruit deprived of water.
It would not have taken an astute observer to imagine just how that day's dark example of Taliban justice in the Kabul sunshine would shape the future of this educated young woman's aching heart."
