However, there are still a few loose ends from their past life. Will these issues lie dormant and leave them in peace? Can they resist going back to the heat of the Caribbean for Captain Kidd’s treasure, which they hid on the volcanic Angel Island? There is still a precarious bond between Ben and Ruth, his childhood sweetheart. How can that be resolved when she is now married to the Governor of Jamaica and Ben has found himself a new love?

They are forced into making a decision when news reaches them that their old captain has been taken prisoner by the French on Martinique. Should they risk their new life to go in search of the captain and the treasure?

    Excerpt from the Book:
“A tiny pebble suddenly landed in Ben’s lap; he looked up and could see Douglas who was silhouetted against the dying embers of the fire signalling to him. Ben carefully reached for his pistols, and with a metallic click, he cocked them. He could see that Edward had also been alerted and now the adrenaline really kicked in, he could hear his heartbeat as it thumped in his chest. Minutes seemed like hours as they ticked slowly passed.

A ghostly silhouette ran in towards them from the shadows; there was a blinding flash, a loud bang, and then a scream. Douglas had fired his pistol and one of the attackers lay writhing on the ground. Out of the dark came the other bandits, shrieking and yelling trying to frighten their victims.

Ben could just make out a figure running towards him; he gently squeezed the trigger of one of his pistols. The flash temporarily blinded him as the gun kicked in his hand. The running figure, who had probably never seen Ben at the base of the tree, was now spinning like a rag doll, his legs, and arms flying in all directions until he fell in a crumpled heap close to Ben’s feet.

There followed a moment of almost silence. The gunshots were still echoing across the lake, and then suddenly out of the dark Ian Douglas called: “Don’t shoot it’s me, Douglas.”

Jamie Douglas had thrown wood onto the fire, which blazed brightly illuminating the campsite. His ghillie came into the light dragging two bodies with him. He unceremoniously dumped them by the fire, both had their throats cut.”
