    About the Book:
Geni is a woman with a colourful past, not all of it happy, and an uncertain future. Dissatisfied with what life seems to have on offer and feeling she has reached an important crossroads in her life, what happens during a holiday in the south of France with her best friend and their children has far-reaching consequences for everyone concerned.

    Excerpt from the Book:
“‘Don’t look so worried, Roger. I’m sure it won’t be that bad, you know. We’ll feel good about what we’ve done and anyway, we should think ourselves lucky. There’s only one Trilby.’

    My voice is softer now.
‘There could have been a whole gaggle of them – two or three, at least. So don’t be scared of offering her a home. It will be fine. You’ll see.’
Roger sighs. For a moment, he looks thoughtful.

‘But how can you say that?’ he asks. ‘Fine, it’s easy to say but how can you be sure?’
And then he walks away – silently, his hands in his pockets, his back stiff, as if the conversation we’ve just had doesn’t really concern him. Not in any meaningful way, at least.

I have often reflected that things might not have been so difficult if Trilby had not been an only child. That was probably why I’d shied away from telling her the truth about her mother. Discovering suddenly that you’re an orphan might not be quite so bad if you have brothers and sisters to share the news and the hurt.

It has always been my intention to provide Trilby with a sibling – several, if possible. But so far all my efforts have been thwarted, either by Roger, by nature, by circumstance, and soon – no doubt – by my age.”

    An engaging read. Recommended!
When a woman with a chequered past reaches an impasse in her life, she has to make some difficult decisions to move her life forward.

An excellent character-driven novel which reflects the tough decisions that women often have to make and the lasting effect their decisions can have on others around them.
