    The Los Angeles, California-based, 75-years young credit union unveiled More L.A. Than in the weeks preceding the recent push for consumers to make the switch to a credit union. The purpose of the promotion is to bring the LAFCU brand to the forefront, with the focus on the diversity of Angelenos and LAFCU's unique ability to serve them because it is a local financial institution with deep community roots.

    LAFCU selected Los Angeles-based ad agency, Simon+Associates Advertising for development of the promotion and together launched a comprehensive multi-media campaign, including outdoor, movie theatre, targeted newspaper ads and grassroots events. But the campaign's strategic focus was heavily online, via Twitter, Facebook, a promotional website and other digital channels. The Facebook page posts local events, sights and other items of interest that are unique to the L.A. area. Comparison taglines were created to emphasize LAFCU and L.A.'s distinctive character…for example, "More L.A. Than Networking during Downward Dog," "More L.A. Than Summer in the Winter" and "More L.A. Than Valet Parking at the Supermarket."

    Proof of the campaign's timing became apparent when the "likes" on the credit union's "More LA Than" Facebook page jumped to nearly 900 this week, with 200 on a single day. In the six weeks since the Twitter profile was launched, it garnered over 250 followers and continues to grow with an average of 12 new followers daily.

    "We couldn't have known it at the time of course, but we're extremely pleased at how this campaign has fit in so well with current events," noted LAFCU VP of Marketing Marty Goodman. "I'd like to encourage everyone in the Greater Los Angeles who are looking for a better banking alternative to consider joining LAFCU with its low loan rates & many beneficial financial services."
