  • Phoenix-Mesa, AZ (1888PressRelease) February 18, 2011 - Be a beholder of beauty at the 2011 International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp) Symposium! All registered participants will get an opportunity to select a winner in the "Imagine Me Beyond What you See" mannequin design contest. This contest encouraged treatment centers and private facilities with art therapists, as well as students and the general public, to work with patients to design mannequins in a way that reflects their perception of beauty. "Imagine Me Beyond What You See" is designed to promote a healthy awareness and acceptance of body images.

From the total submissions, a panel of judges has selected three finalists, and is looking to the symposium participants to determine the "Professionals Choice" winner. The three finalists competing for first place, runner up, and honorable mention as voted on by the judges are: Sara Burchfiel's "Hear Me Please," Rebecca Tishman's "Erosion," and Eating Recovery Center's (ERC)/Lisa Talucci's "I Am a Soul in A Body." These submissions, as well as Sophie Wolfe's "Balance, " Hallie Espel's "Scapegoat Beauty," Sandra Holloway's "Into The Sun," Magnolia Creek/Spring Olsen's "In Full Bloom," Timberline Knolls/Rae Fleagle's "Wommannequins," and Dr. Susan Mendelsohn Group's "Words and Windows of Wisdom" will be on posters and be exhibited throughout the conference. Conference attendees will vote for their favorite overall design and the winner will receive the "Professionals Choice Award."

Judging will be based on the clarity of the theme, creativity, originality, quality of composition and design, overall impression and presentation and an above and beyond impact.

The panel of judges will present awards for first place, first runner up and honorable mention, as well as the participant-selected Professionals Choice Award at the Red Carpet Film Premiere of "America the Beautiful: Body Mass Index.." on Satrday, March 5th. The first place piece will be given a financial prize, have their artwork used in iaedp symposium promotional mailings and be auctioned off, with proceeds going toward the iaedp Foundation.
The kickoff of the first annual body image mannequin competition has been a huge success, and has been highlighted and recognized throughout national media sources.
