  • (1888PressRelease) May 10, 2017 - One of the top ranked American university in the world ranking list, Indiana University has selected Lovely Professional University's Film & Television Production Programme final year student "Dulcie Suri" on full-scholarship for Film-Making Workshop. The prestigious scholarship includes Dulcie's all air-fares, hostel & food fees, programme fees and expenses for various projects covered during the workshop. Selected as one among 15 students from across India, Dulcie will team up with her Pakistani & other counter-parts from Punjab region to discover common ground in their joint creative works, crossing all cultural, political and geographic barriers. The theme of the workshop is 'Beyond Borders: A Workshop of Filmmaking across the Punjab Region' of India & Pakistan.

    Congratulating the brilliant Dulcie, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal inspired her to keep on bringing more and more laurels to herself, her parents and alma-matter through her socially useful projects. He said: "From Jamshedpur in Jharkhand state of India to being at LPU and from here to now proceeding to top American University; Dulcie has created an inspiring story of success for other students to follow."

    Dulcie shares: "My revolutionary projects of short films making, script writing, essays, editing, dubbing, budgeting, set-designing & other related works created at LPU made me successful in gaining this coveted opportunity. Under the versatile guidance of all of my teachers at LPU; I have been able to touch socially prevalent serious problems including terrorism, transgender issue, and even female genital mutation."

    She further shared, "One of my short films 'Unfortunate Day' is about killing of hundreds of innocent school children in Peshawar (Pakistan) few years back. Another, 'Blood Donation' mockingly criticizes growing suicidal attempts among young students and inspires for blood and body parts donations to help other living ones. My Ad-Film 'Men will be Men" reveals man's dominance in the society. All of these works are of global importance and awakening, the creative thinking and social feeling for which was instilled in me only by my teachers, fellow friends and great environment of global diversity at LPU."

    Illustrative, with support from the U.S. Embassy, Indiana University plans to brings together participants from India and Pakistan Punjab region to work together on conceptualizing, writing, and producing short films. Participants get engaged in American life through field trips and visiting communities around the state of Indiana, learning about the diversity within America but also learn about each other in the process. The workshop is designed to develop filmmaking skills (camera and editing) and make their own short films in small mixed groups of Indian/Pakistani members.
