Tim Williams, Chair, Union County Interfaith Coordinating Council, Discusses "Speed Dating" Event For Houses of Worship

  • (1888PressRelease) April 26, 2017 - Tim Williams, the incoming Chair of the Union County Interfaith Coordinating Council, an organization comprising more than 40 interfaith congregations and community-based nonprofits, spearheaded by Community Access Unlimited (CAU), was a guest on WFME 1560-AM radio.

    Williams spoke with host, Jay Trelease, about CAU's second annual Faith in Action networking event where representatives from various faith-based organizations will be present to help Union County residents determine which house of worship they would like join. Community members throughout Union County, who are looking for a faith community, will "speed date" with various faith-based organizations.

    Last year 92 CAU members met with 43 representatives of 19 houses of worship. Of those 92, 50 made connections with one of the organizations.

    According to Williams, "There are a lot of people looking for more than just a place to worship. Faith into Action is a networking opportunity where different houses of worship will be available to speak to residents. You can come to the event and ask any questions you may have."

    Williams continues, " It is a wonderful experience, all the denominations here offer a truly welcoming environment. You can come out and find a comfortable place to worship with friendly people."

    The Union County Interfaith Coordinating Council, is an organization comprising more than 40 interfaith congregations and community-based nonprofits, including CAU. The council promotes inclusion of all people within the community, without regard to race, religion or disability, and creates a clearing house of faith-based, nonprofit and government community services available to the public, according to Sid Blanchard, CAU executive director.

    CAU is a statewide nonprofit providing support programs and services to adults with disabilities as well as youth served under the Department of Children and Families (DCF) to enable them to live independently in the community, providing supports in areas including housing, vocational skills and life-skills training, education, advocacy and recreation.

    Tim Williams is deacon at First Baptist Church Kenilworth and the incoming chair of the Union County Interfaith Coordinating Council.
