  • Atlanta, GA (1888PressRelease) January 13, 2012 - Middle school teacher, Nigel L. Walker, published his first book in November, 2011, entitled "The Underground Philosophy of Education", through Kobalt Books.

The book, which serves as a tool to undergraduate students studying education, provides realistic expectations to first year teachers upon entering the classroom. Intended to help prepare future students to better handle administrative barriers and parental concerns, Walker aids readers on how to fully focus on the needs of their students.

Walker, who recently hosted a book signing in December 2011 at The Book Seller bookstore in LaGrange, is also planning to speak at Georgia Perimeter College in Clarkston in January. He also plans to put together a book tour in the near future.

"Coming from a single parent family of eight in public housing I was inspired to provide a unique perspective as a teacher that has gained much respect from the students," Walker said. "I want to help start conversations that are not being held in today's educational discussions except by teachers."

With aspirations of becoming a college professor and someday open his own private school, Walker currently teaches middle school students, coaches sports and volunteers his time by mentoring other teachers. He has written two poetry books, "The Secret Diaries of Jean Batiste" in 2004 and "Rose Petals for Josephine: The Secret Diaries Vol. II" in 2007, both through Kobalt Books.
