  • (1888PressRelease) July 08, 2014 - As students around the world gear up for final exams, from Inner Mongolia to Pennsylvania, participants in the eighth annual Ameson Chinese Elite (ACE) program are also preparing for a summer filled with travel, adventure, and new connections. ACE provides students with the chance to act as cultural ambassadors through their interaction with other students from each of the UN Security Council's five permanent member states represented at the event. Held from July 31st to August 6th in Beijing, participants in this selective program are chosen on the basis of merit and include students from five countries and a wide variety of backgrounds.

The UN Security Council's mission is worldwide peacekeeping, a job that cannot be left to one nation, which is why it is so critical for citizens of multiple countries to participate and engage each other in an international dialogue. As upcoming American participant Medina Saeed puts it, "I cannot wait to learn more about the world from a different perspective." We agree with Medina - in keeping with Ameson's goal of fostering cultural understanding it's important that we seek to see the world from other points of view. Selected from top secondary institutions in their home countries, ACE students will engage other future leaders from around the world and have a chance to take part in a series of activities that will test and develop their intercultural communication skills. The costs for participation in the ACE program are fully covered by Ameson to give young talent from all backgrounds the same opportunity to engage each other.

In keeping with ACE tradition, students from France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States will be paired with Chinese roommates and take part in events organized by the high school student union. Participants from each country will have the chance to present what they feel are the keys to understanding their nation's youth and student representatives from each country will have a chance to debate the critical issues that face the world today.

With China's rise on the world stage more obvious than ever, ACE students have the chance to learn about the decision making process that shapes the country's policy and advancements by observing this year's model Chinese People's Political Consultative Congress (CPPCC), a unique opportunity currently only available to ACE participants. Participants in what will be the third annual convocation of the model CPPCC will learn to identify, research and present social issues the Chinese way, giving non-Chinese participants a look in at the Chinese view on many familiar issues. Because of the merit based admissions structure, Chinese representatives hail from the northern steppes to urban Shanghai, allowing the program to avoid the pitfalls of an unbalanced focus on economically developed coastal regions.

"I hope that the program will allow me to develop a deeper understanding of China as well as allowing me to meet and interact with like-minded students from other countries," said Alishiya Tanna, a participant from Russia, when asked about her expectations for the program. As in the past, this year's ACE program promises to serve as a platform to further Ameson's goals of global citizenship and cultural ambassadorship.
