  • (1888PressRelease) March 31, 2017 - Missouri native Len Berry has published the first installment of his dark fantasy serial, Scars Of Shadow, a story dealing with one woman's struggle to do good in a world increasingly prejudices against her.

Sarena is a witch, sworn to aid others but cursed to return every time she is slain, but without the benefit of being healed. As she searches for others to comfort or defend, Sarena discovers a bleeding wall not found on any map. Before she can investigate, she is attacked by a village of refugees.

With Scars Of Shadow, Len Berry combines two unique inspirations. First is the popular video game series Dark Souls, which has upended many fantasy storytelling conventions. The other major influence for this serial is the Ridley Scott film Prometheus. "Fantasy heroes have fought monsters for centuries," said Berry. "In this case, the threat comes from a city of biomechanoid creatures that act more like Aliens than orcs."

Installments of Scars Of Shadow will be released monthly through Smashwords, with twelve chapters total.
