The Entrepreneur Magazine's 32nd Annual Franchise 500® is said to be the most comprehensive franchise ranking in the world. The franchises are ranked based on financial and statistical data from July 2008 through July 2010. Criteria include objective, quantifiable measures of a franchise operation. Entrepreneur said, "The most important factors include financial strength and stability, growth rate and size of the system."

Additional factors such as the number of years in business, startup costs, litigation, percentage of terminations and available financing are also considered. All objective factors are plugged into Entrepreneur's Franchise 500® formula to calculate a cumulative score and the 500 franchises with the highest scores are announced as the Top Franchise 500®.
