  • Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) January 20, 2011 - With unemployment rates at record highs and worsening, homelessness and poverty are becoming rising concerns within the Triangle. In an effort to support the children and families affected by these trying financial times, Assistance League of Raleigh, a local chapter of the national nonprofit Assistance LeagueŽ, has developed signature philanthropic programs to help meet some of their basic needs. However, volunteers and financial contributions are integral to the success of these programs.

Assistance League of Raleigh is proud to announce they have been awarded a grant from the Scheick-Verrochi Family Foundation, Inc. for implementing these programs in 2011. The Scheick-Verrochi Family Foundation, Inc. generously awarded $8,000 to support Operation School BellŽ, Assistance League of Raleigh's primary philanthropic initiative, concerned with providing essentials to at-risk youth in the Raleigh school system. Last year's efforts provided clothing and essentials to hundreds of children who attend Hope Elementary Charter School and Stough Elementary School.

"In these difficult economic times we are so blessed to have partners in the community like the Scheick-Verrochi Family," said Brenda Griffin, president of Assistance League of Raleigh, "Their support makes a direct impact on the citizens of Raleigh who need it the most."
