  • (1888PressRelease) January 13, 2013 - Many people think of the Kansas Anti-Zombie Militia as a joke. But, it's actually a real group with real members who are serious about being prepared for a zombie invasion. They're urging the general public to also be prepared for zombies, which may hit at any time. The militia group is encouraging people to stockpile food and water just in case. In addition to food insurance, people should also have first aid kits ready for this upcoming emergency situation.

In a recent interview, the main spokesman for the militia, Alfredo Carbajal, posed the question, "Can a natural person change into this monster that many fear?" He believes that it's quite possible, looking back on past events that were very close to a zombie invasion.

As crazy as the idea sounds to many, group members have a reason for their beliefs. They're not necessarily scared of the types of zombies we see in movies and on the cable series, "Walking Dead." The apocalypse that they fear may be coming very soon is related to a virus that they say will spread like a epidemic. They believe this virus will result in the creation of symptoms in humans that will be "zombie-like."

In December, the Kansas Anti-Zombie Militia was featured in a documentary on the Discovery Channel. The documentary's conclusion? A Zompoc, or Zombie Apocalypse, is definitely possible. On the program there were also scientists featured. These scientists made some speculations that a virus of the evolving type is bound to infect many humans on a planet so overcrowded as Earth. Carbajal says that even people who aren't Zompoc believers should still get prepared. In his opinion, being prepared for an apocalypse you don't really believe in will ensure that you're prepared for just about any natural disaster. He speaks highly of food storage programs and first aid kits for disaster preparedness.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has created a spoof public service announcement about Zombie Preparedness. They say that the spoof is not intended to create a zombie scare. Using the tagline, "If you are prepared for zombies, you are prepared for anything and prepared for the unexpected", CDC is using the idea to promote disaster preparedness. The goal is to get people all over the world to be prepared with water, food storage and supplies that will last at least several days.

How Much Food Insurance Do You Have?

How long can you and your family survive on the food you currently have inside your home? There are many different opinions about how much food storage you should have in your home. Some people believe you should have a least a week's supply. Others feel as though a month's supply is sufficient.

But, you'd be surprised how many people currently have a whole year's worth of food storage in their homes. These people keep well-stocked pantries. They also have food storage in closets, garages and basements, containing frozen meats, fruits and vegetables, rice, grains, flour, even freeze dried foods. They have put in place a food storage plan that will ensure that their families have daily meals, desserts, water, juices and snacks in the event of an emergency.

Many of these people have learned from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and most recently, Hurricane Sandy. People went for days, weeks, some even months, without access to open stores to purchase food and water. They were also without utilities needed for preparing meals, such as electricity and natural gas. So, they decided to be prepared so that their families are self-sufficient after such a natural disaster.

Whether you believe a Zombie Apocalypse is coming or not, you know that other natural disasters like hurricanes, earthquakes, floods and tornadoes happen all the time. Being prepared for any type of emergency is the best way to ensure that you can feed your family during emergencies and hard times.
