  • (1888PressRelease) May 25, 2011 - Skipton, North Yorkshire Karen Weaving, who raises funds for Cancer Research UK through charity work carried out by the Ribble Valley and White Rose Ladies Committee, has discovered that the Committee have been selected to receive a Flame of Hope Award. The Flame of Hope award is given each year to groups and individuals in recognition of their tireless efforts to raise funds for the charity. Cancer Research UK have been receiving nominations for the award over the last few months and Karen and the White Rose Ladies have been chosen by the charity's awards panel as joint winners of the 'Fundraising in the Community Award 2011'. Karen said: 'We're absolutely thrilled to have been chosen for this award and would like to thank everyone who has nominated us. Cancer Research UK is a very important charity to us and receiving the award will be the icing on the cake for all the fundraising we've worked hard on this year.'

    Karen has also discovered that she has been nominated individually for the Fundraising Volunteer of the the Year Award 2011 and that she's been chosen to receive a Special Commendation in this award category. 'I was really delighted to hear that I've been nominated for the Fundraising Volunteer Award. Raising money for Cancer Research UK is a great pleasure and it means a lot to be recognised,' said Karen.

    Karen has been invited by Cancer Research UK to attend a special awards lunch at the exclusive Hotel Russell in London on June 10 where she is to be presented with her Fundraising in the Community Award by Michael Pragnell, Chairman of Cancer Research UK. Karen said: 'It'll be a real pleasure to travel to London and take part in the awards ceremony and meet other fundraisers from around the country.'

Karen said: 'We're hoping that our fashion evening on 14 June will be a great success. Karen added: I'm sure there are lots of ladies out there who have a wardrobe full of clothes but feel they have nothing to wear.
