  • (1888PressRelease) July 17, 2010 - Yorkshire-based online learning specialist, Frog (www.frogtrade.com), is delighted to announce that it has been named a finalist for 'Use of Educational Technology' in the 2010 EducationInvestor Awards - a brand new programme celebrating innovation and excellence in the UK's education industry.

The rapidly expanding Halifax-based company has been recognised for its outstanding provision of the increasingly popular Frog Learning Platform, now used by schools across 89 local authorities. Frog is a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) that allows students, teachers and parents to access all school information from one online location. Schools can personalise Frog to engage the whole school community.

Frog works with schools and local authorities to develop better ways of addressing educational needs and empowering students and staff to achieve excellence in education. Since forming Frog in 1999, Managing Director Gareth Davies has led the business to rapid growth and success, doubling its turnover every year for the last four years. A key part of this success has been due to the reputation the company has built with its customers, which has snowballed.

The company has recently recruited new staff and formed beneficial partnerships to spearhead UK and international expansion. From August, a dedicated Community Manager will be responsible for helping schools to share best practice and resources through Frog's community site.

Earlier this year, Frog was appointed as one of only four official suppliers of learning platforms for schools across North East England. Schools and local authorities will benefit from greater cost efficiencies and savings each year thanks to the new contract negotiated by The Northern Grid for Learning.

This year also saw the launch of Frog's Parental Engagement Portal to encourage more effective two-way communication between schools and parents, as well as the piloting of a new Primary Learning Platform in five primary schools in Doncaster. In addition, a bespoke solution was implemented for ACS International School's three campuses in Cobham, Egham and Hillingdon, catering for over 6,000 students. In June, Frog hosted its most successful National Learning Platforms Conference to date, attracting over 700 delegates from UK schools and local authorities who attended workshops and shared best practice.

Investment in research and development has enabled Frog to become a future-proof cost-effective option for schools. Rather than selling schools off-the-shelf software requiring them to adjust to it, schools are given ownership to tailor it to their needs with the help of Frog's design team. After approximately six months, schools often choose to adapt it further, having recognised ways they could tailor it.

A 'FrogImpact' survey of 47 schools showed that Frog has helped to streamline workflows, extend working, improve pupil engagement, improve pupil-teacher relationships and dialogue, improve parental engagement and help schools overcome technophobia.

Gareth Davies, Managing Director, Frog, enthused: "We are thrilled to be recognised for our outstanding provision of online learning by the EducationInvestor Awards. Students, teachers and parents enjoy using Frog because it gives them a sense of fulfilment - this experience has been intentionally engineered into the system, emphasising that people and their interactions, rather than computers, are the essence of this digital age".

Frog runs a series of awareness days during the year which take place all over the country and are hosted and presented by the schools themselves - for details of these events please visit www.frogtrade.com/events. Frog welcomes enquiries from companies in the education sector interested in becoming a partner or reselling its product.

The 2010 EducationInvestor Awards will be judged by an independent panel of industry experts and presented at a glittering ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel on 16th November.
