  • West Palm Beach-Boca Raton, FL (1888PressRelease) July 27, 2011 - When it comes to fighting the odds and shining in the face of adversity, few have a track record like Yellowman. At every turn, he has taken the hand he was dealt with the deck stacked against him and before long had the house playing by his rules and cheering for more.

General Manager Alex Polazzo conveyed the venue's enthusiasm about bringing Yellowman to Delray Beach. "We feel the positive energy Yellowman brings to the stage is a perfect fit for the Pineapple Groove atmosphere, and we're excited to welcome such a talented artist with such a rich history in the reggae/dancehall scene. "
Jamaica's first dancehall superstar, Yellowman ushered in a new era in reggae music following Bob Marley's death. His early-'80s success brought the popularity of toasting -- the reggae equivalent of rapping -- to a whole new level, and helped establish dancehall as the wave of the future.

Winston Foster grew up at Maxfield Home orphanage in Kingston, Jamaica. From birth he was forced to battle both poverty and the social stigma of albinism, which was usually not socially accepted in Jamaica at that time. He attended the Alpha Boys School, run by Catholic nuns established in 1880 as a "school for wayward boys", it became renowned for both the discipline it instilled in its pupils and the outstanding musical education they received.

Taking ownership of the nickname "Yellowman" Winston went on to wow reggae crowds all over Jamaica and the rest of the world with his boastful and sometimes bodacious lyrics. His ability to ride rhythm and excite a crowd made Yellow an instant hit in Jamaica. He recorded one album after signing with major label CBS Records before being diagnosed with jaw cancer and was given six months to live. Again, they underestimated the unstoppable dancehall superstar. This was in 1986, and he has continued to rock packed concert halls and venues all over the world, his solid fan base increases with every live performance with the unbridled energy, quick wit always leaving the crowd sweating, smiling and cheering for more.
