  • (1888PressRelease) October 29, 2013 - Hyderabad - Yashoda Hospital, Malakpet conducted 'Fight Against Women's Cancers', a Cancer Awareness Programme under Fight On, a cancer conquerors empowerment initiative by Yashoda Group of Hospitals, to commemorate the World Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The initiative is a part of Yashoda Group's commitment to help cancer conquerors beyond providing superior medical treatment.

The initiative was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Mrs. Jayasudha, MLA, Secunderabad Constituency and eminent film personality, today amidst a special gathering of cancer conquerors, cancer specialists and other important delegates.

Breast cancer is the most common of all cancers and is the leading cause of deaths in women across the world. A recent study of breast cancer risk in India revealed that 1 in 28 women develop breast cancer during their lifetime. This can be relatively higher in urban areas being 1 in 22 women developing breast cancer in a lifetime compared to rural areas where the risk is comparatively lower being 1 in 60 in their lifetime.

The programme will provide a platform for all women cancer conquerors including the breast cancer conquerors to promote healing, stimulate inner resources, enhance quality of life and compliment medical care.

Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Jayasudha said, "I am happy that Yashoda Hospital, Malakpet is conducting this programme to help women suffering from Cancer to cope up with this dreaded disease. I understand that a cancer diagnosis can be depressive and can cause trauma. More than the disease, handling emotions can be quite tough. I hope that this programme, under the aegis 'Fight On', will provide strong support to all the women breast cancer and other cancer conquerors available here at every step".

Explaining on the need to start this initiative, Dr. G.S. Rao, Managing Director, Yashoda Group of Hospitals, said, "There's a lot more to fighting cancer than just chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. From nutrition to emotional needs, we have to look at a patient's medical care from a holistic perspective. We have observed that positive outlook and behavioral changes slow the growth of cancer cells and boost the chances for survival. Realizing this aspect of treatment, we are continuously conducting such programmes under our Cancer survivor support initiative Fight On, which was launched on World Cancer Day this year.

About 20 cancer conquerors attended the ceremony. In addition, Dr. A. Lingaiah, Director-Medical Services, Yashoda Hospitals, Dr. Vishnu Reddy, Chief Operating Office, Yashoda Hospital, Malakpet and cancer specialists from Yashoda Cancer Institutes also attended the programme.
